Howlands (Dewsbury District League of Friendship)

By Good Fundraising

The Howlands Centre is a community hub in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, providing vital support to local people, particularly those facing disadvantage and social isolation. It offers a safe, welcoming space where individuals and families can access practical help, advice and opportunities to connect.

The Centre supports vulnerable adults with physical, learning and sensory disabilities, as well as people experiencing mental health challenges often linked to loneliness and isolation. Volunteers and carers deliver daily sessions focused on socialising, arts and crafts, and physical activities in a friendly, inclusive environment.

Through a range of community activities, wellbeing support, advice services and space for local groups, Howlands Centre helps build confidence, resilience and quality of life, strengthening community connections and supporting people to manage everyday challenges.

Good Fundraising helped them deliver a major refurbishment project and secure funding to support their vital services., helping them deliver a major refurbishment project and secure the funding needed to maintain their vital services.

We were delighted to help The Howlands secure over £450,000 from the Big Lottery for the refurbishment, creating a wonderful space for their activities. During the pandemic, we also assisted in securing funding that enabled the centre to survive while sessions were paused.
