Celebrating Events that Make a Difference

By Good Fundraising

Every now and then, it’s important to take a step back from the daily routine and get involved in something a little different – especially when it helps bring communities together, preserve history, or simply offer a moment of joy. Recently, we’ve had the chance to support and attend a couple of standout events that reminded us just how impactful well-run community occasions can be.

The first was a powerful commemorative event, marking the 10th anniversary of a Memorial Garden honouring those who were part of the UK’s mining heritage. It was a day full of reflection and respect, with personal stories and tributes that underscored the strength and pride of working communities. Fundraising efforts through symbolic tokens, like glass checks, continue to support the garden’s care and ensure these memories are preserved for future generations. Being there to support such a meaningful day was a real privilege.

On a more light-hearted note, we also got involved in a fun-filled celebration marking the 21st birthday of a group of much-loved pit ponies. This event had it all – horse-themed party games, crafts, keeper talks, farrier demonstrations, birthday cake, and even an artwork unveiling. It was a great example of how events can educate and entertain at the same time, while also raising vital funds through local sponsorship and community support.

We had the pleasure of attending the launch of a newly refreshed Visitor Centre at a local heritage site. The updated space features a variety of interactive exhibits – from historical artefacts and replica objects to a vibrant 1980s-style animation that brings the area’s industrial past to life. Visitors can enjoy hands-on displays, dress-up activities, and engaging trails that celebrate over two centuries of rich industrial heritage. Be sure to check it out!

We also recently visited a coffee morning at a local community space that has been newly refurbished, featuring a beautiful heritage mural created by people with learning disabilities. It’s truly inspiring to see the community come together on projects like this, fostering creativity, inclusion, and pride.

These experiences reminded us why we love being involved in events that matter. Whether they’re about remembrance or celebration, education or entertainment, it’s always rewarding to help bring people together and be part of something that makes a lasting impact.
